983. Prepositions

A preposition is a word that shows the position of an object. A preposition is always found at the beginning of a prepositional phrase. The phrase ends with an object of the preposition.
These are some common prepositions in the English language: in, on, over, under, above, below, inside, outside, to, from, behind, beneath

Use each preposition to begin a phrase that shows the position of an object:
The cake is in the oven.
The food is on the table.
The cat hid behind the door.
I keep my wallet inside my bag.
Jane walked to the store.
Bob received a Christmas card from his sister.
We have a sled outside the front door.

A preposition shows position. A preposition always comes at the start of a phrase. A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun which is called the object of the preposition.
