Combine two independent clauses to make a compound sentence. Use a comma and one of the FANBOYS when joining the two independent clauses.
I slept late, so I will miss my first class.
The sun is shining, but the wind is cold.
When you make a compound sentence using the word and, you can reverse the order of the two independent clauses. You will need a comma no matter which clause goes first. Look at these examples:
John is my brother, and Sarah is my sister.
Sarah is my sister, and John is my brother.
I will pull weeds, and you can mow the lawn.
You can mow the lawn, and I will pull weeds.
