682.Plural Possessive Nouns

Singular nouns add ‘s to show possession.
This is John’s dog.
We found Mom’s keys.
The dog’s paw is injured.

Most plural nouns add an s to show more than one.
One dog. Two dogs.
One house. Two houses.
One duck. Two ducks.

To show ownership with plural nouns that end in s, we add only an apostrophe.
The one duck’s feathers are green and blue.
All those ducks’ feathers are beautiful.
That one house’s roof is brown.
All the houses’ roofs on this street are black.
My dog’s paw is bleeding.
At the vet today, all the dogs’ owners were girls.

Some nouns change form when they become plural rather than adding an s.
one child – two children
one foot – two feet
one mouse – two mice
These nouns take an ‘s to show ownership.
We saw one child’s new bike.
The children’s new bikes are all ten-speed racers.
