811. Action Verbs

Most verbs demonstrate action. When the verb in the sentence shows that the subject is actively doing something, we call that an action verb.

Here are examples of verbs that show action: run, jump, skip, play, cook, bake, sing, dance, sleep, drive, move, help, laugh, cry, wink, mow, rake, shovel, snore, brush, wash, open, close, lift, drop, type, read, write
Each of these action verbs conveys an act of some kind.

A verb that shows action is an action verb. An action verb can be in present, past, or future tense.
