Some verbs have a past tense that looks nothing like the present tense verb. The verbs we look at today all have a similar past tense form. There is no pattern; we just have to memorize the past tense form.
buy – bought
bring – brought
think – thought
fight – fought
catch – caught
Some past tense verbs use very irregular spelling for the past tense forms. The past tense verbs today all have an “awt” sound.
