782. Prepositional Phrase – “for us” and “with us”

The words for and with act as a preposition when they begin a prepositional phrase. Look at these examples:
My sister and I share a birthday, and Mom baked a cake for us.
Our volleyball coaches planned a party for us.
We are taking the entire family with us to the beach.
I hope you can come with us.

These prepositional phrases are part of the object in a sentence. If we add more people to “us,” they become part of the prepositional phrase.
My sister and I share a birthday, and Mom baked a cake for the whole family and us.
Our volleyball coaches held a practice with the boys’ team and us.

The prepositional phrases “for us” and “with us” are used as part of the object in a sentence, even if someone else gets placed in the phrase also.

▶It’s your turn. Fill the blank in this sentence. John is driving with us. John is driving with Bob and ___. Did you figure it out? Good for you.
