747. Superlative Adjectives

We sometimes use an adjective to compare one noun to another. Yesterday we talked about comparative adjectives which compare two nouns. A superlative adjective compares three or more nouns. The superlative adjective describes the highest level of comparison.

Add the letters –est when making an adjective into a superlative.
Jim has a tall brother.
Sam has a taller brother.
Bill has the tallest brother of all.

Mary lives in an old house.
Janet lives in an older house.
Susan lives in the oldest house of all.

short, shorter, shortest
warm, warmer, warmest
cold, colder, coldest
high, higher, highest
long, longer, longest

Add the letters -est to make a superlative adjective.
