669. Confusing Verbs – Resign and Re-sign

The verb resign means to quit a job or a position or to find peace with a decision.
I am going to resign from my teaching position.
Bob must resign himself to the idea that we are not getting a dog.

The verb re-sign means to sign again.
I will re-sign my name since it got erased the first time.
We need to re-sign that singing group to another contract.

Use the verb resign to tell that someone is giving up a job or an idea. Use the verb re-sign when you mean that someone will sign a second time.
