644. Stop Punctuation – Exclamation Mark

Another type of stop punctuation is the exclamation mark (!) which is used to show excitement. Use an exclamation mark as stop punctuation at the end of a sentence that shows excitement, fear, extreme anger, or shock.

Watch out for the shark!
Stay away from that alligator!
Tommy fell down the stairs!
I can’t wait for my new car to be delivered!
John says a tornado is coming!
Stop hitting me!

Anytime a sentence conveys anger, fear, excitement, or shock, we must end the sentence with an exclamation mark.

▶It’s your turn. Decide which of these two sentences should end with an exclamation mark: That man stole my wallet or I left my boots by the door Can you see that one sentence show more excitement and needs and exclamation mark? Good for you!
