986. Verbal Phrases

A phrase is a group of words that works together as a single unit. A phrase is different from a clause because a phrase does not contain a verb. There is no action in a phrase.

A verbal phrase is also a group of words that works together to act as a part of speech. A verbal phrase is different because it contains a verb. However, that verb in a verbal phrase does not act as a verb. The group of words in a verbal phrase acts as a noun, an adverb or an adjective.

Throughout the week, we will talk about three types of verbal phrases: participle, gerund, and infinitive.
