Section A: Find the phrase in each sentence. It might be an appositive phrase or an adjective phrase. A phrase has no verb in it.
1. Mary, a girl in my class, brought her dog to school.
2. Mrs. Rosen, my elderly neighbor, bakes cookies for me.
3. Icy and cold, our car didn’t start this morning.
4. I bought a gift for John, the mail carrier.
5. The wheelbarrow, old and rusty, takes up a lot of space in our garage.

Section B: Decide if each group of words is a phrase or a clause.
