746. Comparative Adjectives add -er

A comparative adjective compares one noun to another. We usually add the letters –er to an adjective to show that it is comparative.
Chess is a hard game to play. Bridge is a harder game to play.
December 2 was a cold day. December 3 was a colder day.
I took a long walk yesterday. I will take a longer walk today.

Here are some more examples of comparative adjectives:
short – shorter
warm – warmer
tall – taller
cool – cooler
sick – sicker
high – higher
low – lower

Add -er to an adjective when comparing one noun to another. An adjective that ends in –er is called a comparative adjective.
