When you write, it is good to use a variety of sentence structures to give your writing energy and interest. In the past two weeks, we have talked about four different types of sentence structure:
simple sentence
compound sentence
complex sentence
compound-complex sentence
Try to master all four of these sentence styles and then use a mixture of them in each piece of writing that you produce. An essay with only simple sentences sounds choppy. An essay with only compound sentences or complex sentences sounds overly pompous and convoluted. It is best to vary your sentence length and your sentence structure to give your writing an interesting and engaging style.
Experiment with changing up your sentences, and your writing will greatly improve.
