706. A Sentence Needs a Subject and a Verb

A sentence is a complete thought. We need a subject and a verb to write a complete thought.
A subject is a noun. The subject does the action in the sentence. A verb is the word that tells the action in the sentence. Look at these sentences. Each one has a subject and a verb:
Dad drives the car.
The bird built a nest.
My teacher read a story.
Janet baked cookies.

Use a subject and a verb when writing a sentence.

▶Now you try it. Think of a person or an object that can do some action. Think of a verb that can be the action. Put the two together and write a sentence with a complete thought. That wasn’t too hard, right?
