701. Use a Noun for the Subject of a Sentence

The subject of a sentence is always a noun. The subject is the person or thing that is doing something in the sentence. Look at these examples of a common noun as the sentence subject:
The dog barked.
The train sped down the track.
The doctor examined the baby.
In each sentence, the subject does something. The subject is always a noun.

Sometimes the subject of a sentence is a proper noun. Here are examples with a proper noun as the subject:
Dad drove me to school.
Dr. Smith spoke at our graduation.
Betty plays the piano.
