Many adverbs end with the letters –ly. Here is a list of adverbs which end in -ly:
slowly, quickly, loudly, quietly, fondly, briskly, barely, mostly, kindly, meanly, finally, weakly, strongly, wrongly
Notice how each -ly adverb tells more about how the action was performed.
The man was wrongly accused of the crime.
Cheryl walked slowly down the hallway.
Two boys ran quickly for the door.
The teacher spoke quietly to the two disruptive students.
Janice kindly read to the little boy.
The rain finally stopped.
You can often recognize an adverb by its –ly ending. Use adverbs to modify verbs.
