561. Past Tense Verbs

A past tense verb tells action that happened anytime before right now. Regular past tense verbs add an -ed ending.

Look at these sentences.
The first sentence has a present tense verb. The second sentence changes the verb to past tense.
Today I work. Yesterday I worked.
Today I play my violin. Yesterday I played my violin.
Today Mary bakes a cake. Yesterday Mary baked a cake.
Today John and Ralph jump on the trampoline. Yesterday John and Ralph jumped on the trampoline.

A regular verb adds an -ed ending when changing from present tense to past tense.
