496. Plural Nouns

Last week we talked briefly about plural nouns. A plural noun is more than one person, place, or thing.

A dog is a singular noun. There is one dog.
The word dogs is a plural noun. Now there is more than one dog.
We usually make a noun plural by adding the letter –s to the end of the word.

Singular nouns: cat, tree, house, car, squirrel, book, sister
Plural nouns: cats, trees, houses, cars, squirrels, books, sisters

Nouns ending in s, ch, sh, x, z take the letters -es to show plural.

Singular nouns: bus, church, bush, box, fuzz
Plural nouns: buses, churches, bushes, boxes, fuzzes

A plural noun is more than one of something. We usually make a noun plural by adding -s or -es to the word.
