486. Common Mistakes – Plural Nouns

A noun names a person, a place, a thing, or an idea. The word “plural” means more than one, so a plural noun names two or more persons, places, things, or ideas.

Usually, a plural is made by adding an -s to the noun.
dog – dogs
boat – boats
truck – trucks

lamp – lamps

Add –es to nouns ending in s, x, z, ch, and sh
box – boxes
grass – grasses
church – churches

bush – bushes

Add -s or -es to most nouns to make them plural.

▶It’s your turn. Add the correct plural noun to the second sentence. My grandpa has one car. My parents have two _____. Did you make that missing noun a plural noun by adding -s? Good for you.
