382. Use a Comma in Large Numerals

Anytime you write a numeral four numbers or larger, you must insert a comma. A comma goes into a numeral after the third place column, like this: 1,000

Here are some other four-number numerals:
2,500
6,725
9,900

If you write a larger numeral, you need a comma after every three place columns, counting from the right, like this:
85,000
725,330
2,650,000

Use a comma after every third number in a large numeral. Start counting at the right, and after every third number, insert a comma.

▶Now you try it. Insert commas into this large numeral: 5417296001. Did you put in three commas? Does your numeral look like this? 5,417,296,001 Good for you!
