In America, today is Thanksgiving Day – sometimes shortened to just Thanksgiving. It’s a day set aside to remember our blessings, a day to think about all the good people and the good things in our life.
Our grammar lesson today is to notice that the names of holidays always get capitalized.
Holiday names are proper nouns. All words of a holiday name must be capitalized.
Thanksgiving Day or Thanksgiving
Christmas Day or Christmas
New Year’s Day or New Year’s
Veteran’s Day
Memorial Day
Today, as we reflect upon our blessings – the good parts of our life – let’s also be thankful for the rules of grammar which guide us to write and communicate clearly. Happy Thanksgiving Day!
