200. Practice Using Nouns as Subject and Object

Section A: Find the noun that is the subject of each sentence. Remember – a subject does the action.
1. My dog ran into the street.
2. Bob plays guitar and drums.
3. Five men walked down the street.
4. The car sped through the tunnel.
5. Moonlight makes everything look silver.

Section B: Find the noun that is the object of the preposition in each sentence.
6. Sue ran down the hill.
7. The cat is hiding under the sofa.
8. Three birds are sitting in the tree.
9. We rode on a ship.
10. Dad gave some money to the man.

Section C: Find the noun that is the direct object of each sentence. Remember – an object gets acted upon.
11. Jack rode his new bike.
12. Ellen plays basketball.
13. That dog ate my sandwich.
14. In choir, we learned a new song.
15. Mom dropped a plate on the floor.

Section D: Each sentence has a prepositional phrase. Take away the preposition. Rewrite each sentence so the object of the preposition becomes an indirect object.
16. I wrote a letter to Dad.
17. I showed my paper to the teacher.
18. Julie gave a rattle to the baby
