1197. An Adjective Becomes a Noun with -ness

An adjective can sometimes become a noun when the letters -ness are added. Look at these examples of an adjective turning into a noun:
helpful – helpfulness
joyful – joyfulness
strange – strangeness

In some words, the last letter -y becomes an -i before addind -ness.
happy – happiness
empty – emptiness
lonely – loneliness

An adjective can be changed to a noun by adding -ness.
