1136. Using Quotation Marks

Quotation marks (“) are always used in pairs. The marks go at the beginning of a spoken sentence and then at the end of the spoken sentence. Quotation marks enclose the words that have been spoken.

Look at this sentence example: Mom said, “I will drive you to school.”
Notice that the exact words spoken by Mom are placed within the pair of quotation marks.

Always put quotation marks at the beginning and at the end of words that are spoken.

It’s your turn. Figure out which words in this sentence were spoken and place quotation marks around the words. Dad told me, Hard work will make you successful. Did you figure out where to place the set of quotation marks? Good for you!
