1074. Confusing Contractions – you’re

The contraction you’re is formed by pushing together the words you are. The a is replaced by an apostrophe.
you’re = you are
I hear you’re going to Greece next month.
I hear you are going to Greece next month.

The contraction you’re is sometimes confused with the possessive pronoun your. Use your when you want to show ownership.
You dropped your jacket.
The jacket belongs to you. The ownership pronoun your does not have an apostrophe.

Use the contraction you’re when you really mean to say you are.
